In the footsteps is pleased to bring you this fantastic Battlefield Tour opportunity to the Great Patriotic War battlefields of Russia. This fantastic Second World War tour offer is exclusive of flights to and from Moscow and is inclusive of:

  • Full-board accommodation in selected hotels throughout your tour commencing on with dinner on the day of arrival and ends with breakfast on the day of departure.
  • All transportation throughout your tour including all internal flights, train journeys and minibus services commencing with transfers on the first and the last days of the trip (please note that if your flights are at a different time from the rest of the group a separate fee for a transfer will apply).

  • Tour Itinerary

    Arrive in Moscow where, upon arrival you will be met by your guide and transported to our Moscow hotel to check in for three nights. The remainder of the day is free for you to rest, relax and acclimatise. In the evening we gather together for a Welcome Dinner and tour briefing.

    In the morning we take a tour around central Moscow including the GUM department store, Lubyanka Square, Red Square and Lenin's tomb. In the afternoon we visit the superb Museum of the Great Patriotic War on Poklonnaya Hill. At the end of the day we return to our Moscow hotel to relax before dinner.

    In the morning we drive out to visit the impressive Kubinka Tank Museum that has a huge collection of Second World War armoured vehicles, the majority of which have only just been open to Westerners. After lunch we visit the 42nd Kilometre where Germans were stopped on Volokolamsky highway and look at exposition of Second World War equipment. At the end of the day we return to our Moscow hotel to relax before dinner.

    Today we drive outside of the city to enjoy a tour of the Monino Military Aircraft museum. The museum is part of a military airbase and traces the history of Russian aviation from the first days up to the present. Upon our return to Moscow we drive to the airport to catch the evening flight to Volgograd (Stalingrad), during which dinner will be taken in flight. On arrival at Volgograd we drive to our hotel where we check in for two nights.

    Today we spend a full day exploring the Stalingrad battlefield including the Mamaev Hill, the Factory District, the Grain Elevator, the Volga river crossing, the Lyudnikov's island, the Paulus last HQ and the Stalingrad panorama. At the end of the day we return to our Volgograd hotel to relax before dinner.

    In the morning we take a boat trip up the Volga past the giant Mother Russia monument and up to the Factory District. Following the boat trip there will be an opportunity for some free time before we catch our return flight to Moscow, during which dinner will be taken in flight. On arrival in Moscow we drive to our hotel where we check in for one night.

    We start the day with the visit of the Armed Forces museum to look at the Soviet and German relics of the Second World War which will be followed by a meeting and lunch with war veterans in the Counsel of Moscow Veterans. In the evening we catch overnight train to explore Kursk battle.

    We will arrive to Kursk early and take a trip to Poniry Station to look at the events within the 'northern shoulder' and last Soviet defence line on Teplov Hights. In the afternoon we will have time to visit the Rokossovsky HQ. At the end of the day we drive to our Mestechko Svoboda hotel near Kursk, which is located in a picturesque and typical Russian village.

    Drive to Jakovlevo and follow the 'death ride' of the Fourth Panzer Army. Explore the battlefield around Prokhorovka, the furthest extent of the German advance. Visit the museum and monuments at Prokhorovka (including the preserved trenches and gun emplacements) before we return to Kursk and catch the overnight train to Moscow.

    We arrive back in Moscow and transfer to the airport for you to catch your flight home.

    The cost of this excellent tour of the Great Patriotic War is only $3990 (USD) per person based on sharing a twin room. Single occupancy is available for an additional $690 (USD) in hotels and $490 (USD) during the overnight train journeys.
